It’s been tried with limited degrees of success before, but 2006 looks to be the year when a very “tight” integration of home entertainment media and the internet will indeed come to pass. As our first episode of Stranova Strategic Edge explained when it first went live on January 8, 2006, the foundation for this was put in place in the form of dramatically improved high-compression data formats for both audio and video, new hardware and software platforms to “play” the new media, special distribution deals arranged with the media providers, widespread availability of high-speed data download capabilities in the home, and easily installed consumer wireless WiFi networks.
